Understanding data
Understanding
what data is available and how to use it is crucial in developing and analysing
the evidence-base.
OCSI have an unrivalled knowledge of identifying, developing and analysing datasets at local neighbourhood level. Many of our team worked on developing the national Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2004 and 2000, with experience of working with small area benefits and other administrative datasets stretching back into the 1980s.
OCSI are supporting local practitioners identify and analyse the evidence base at local neighbourhood level - the Data Provision for Neighbourhood Renewal project, commissioned by the ODPM's Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, highlights the key datasets at a neighbourhood level. Recently we have also been involved in providing advice to help prioritise the development of datasets for release through Neighbourhood Statistics.
In a series of area profiling, needs measurement and evaluation studies, we have helped local partnerships pull together the evidence-base across their area. Alongside these projects, the OCSI Data Tools provides a comprehensive database of information, enabling your organisation to target resources, demonstrate effective spending, and strengthen regeneration bids.
OCSI can help you
- We identify information needed to target specific programmes at the right areas and communities
- OCSI sees what evidence supports funding proposals
- We research the most recent and most detailed data available on X
- We evaluate and performance manage programmes and services more effectively
- OCSI examines what information is available for baseline area profiles for the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, Local Area Agreements, Local Enterprise Growth Initiative and/or other programmes
- We inspect the new data being released (see the OCSI Data Watch for more info)
With extensive experience in identifying, developing and analysing datasets at local neighbourhood level, we can help you make effective use of the evidence-base - please contact us for further details.
