Mapping Deprivation across Lewes

The brief
Lewes District Council commissioned OCSI to develop data and analysis covering the district, with comparison data for East Sussex county, the region and country as a whole.
Our approach
Really pleased with the OCSI training session ... Colleagues responded positively and really enjoyed the day Sue Harvey, Corporate Performance, Lewes District CouncilOCSI developed a set of Data Tools covering Lewes District, combining information from the Indices of Deprivation 2004 alongside other key national datasets on DWP benefits, Home Office crime data, and major health datasets. The Data Tools were provided in map, chart and table format, available to users across the District.
In addition, OCSI carried out in-depth analysis to develop a detailed Area Profile report - identifying the geographical areas and themes across Lewes potentially requiring additional funding and targeted programmes.
Outcomes
Good to know we can be more scientific, as opposed to anecdotal, in our knowledge of deprivation Elected Member, Lewes District CouncilThe project provided planners and analysts across Lewes with the evidence base needed to inform service planning delivery, change and evaluation.
An immediate use for the Data Tools was in helping develop the Local Development Framework, setting out the spatial planning strategy for Lewes District Council.
