The brief
The Youth Justice Board for England and Wales commissioned OCSI to develop summary scores from the Indices of Deprivation 2004 (ID 2004) across Youth Offending Team (YOT) areas.
Our approach
Many of the 138 YOT areas across England span local authority boundaries, so ID 2004 data needed to be aggregated up to custom-built areas. The ID 2004 is based on detailed Super Output Areas (SOAs) - there are over 32,000 SOAs across England with an average population size of 1,500. From these 'building blocks' OCSI can allocate the Index of Multiple Deprivation and individual domain scores to any set of geographies.
