About us
The increasing emphasis on evidence-based work means public sector organisations need more detailed research and analysis of social and economic patterns and trends than ever before. OCSI are working with the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, Metropolitan, District & County Councils and Local Strategic Partnerships to identify and analyse the evidence base to help public sector organisations tackle deprivation.
Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI) was launched in October 2003 as a spin-out consultancy from Oxford University to help local government and other public sector organisations:
- Identify deprived neighbourhoods and communities
- Target resources
- Evaluate programme effectiveness
- Strengthen regeneration bids.
Our services are based on two decades of ground-breaking research at the Social Disadvantage Research Centre (SDRC) in Oxford University's Department of Social Policy and Social Work. The SDRC is a world leader in area-based deprivation research, developing the National Indices of Deprivation for England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.
Our team combines expertise in area deprivation analysis, social exclusion planning, small area statistics, resource targeting, government policy, geographic information systems (GIS) and database & web development technologies.
